Learn how to set up Donate at Checkout

Introduction

Donate at Checkout allows you to offer customers to donate towards a cause during the payment process. You can chose to have the donation screen appear automatically when the cashier pushes the Pay button or manually launch using the Donate at Checkout button.

Donations can be Rounded Up (to the nearest currency amount), Fixed (4 options) or a Custom amount (customer enters).

Initial Setup

Before you can collecting donations, you'll need to add details about the cause, options customers see and how those options are presented.

Setting Charity Name & Amounts

  1. Open the Donate at Checkout App.

  2. Type in the name of the charity at the bottom of the screen and click on Save.

  3. Click on the four green boxes and create pre-set donation amounts.

Customize Experience

Depending on how you want customers to experience the donation screen, we have buttons:

  1. Auto Launch - When Pay button is pressed the Donation screen will appear

  2. Round Up - Turn Off to have another Fixed donation amount (top left)

  3. Order Summary - Return to Order Summary after entering Donation

  4. Duo 2nd Screen -> Shows the Donation options on the Customer Facing Display

Collecting a Donation

  1. While in the Register Application, Click on the “Pay” button.

  2. Click on the “Donate at Checkout” button under “Other” Payment Methods.

  3. Select the amount to donate.

  4. Click on “Add Payment” on the next screen.

FAQs

Can I use this app without the "Register"?

Donate at Checkout is only designed to work in the Register app on a Clover device.

How do I find records of the Donations?

Donation records are through the Clover Dashboard.

Log into your Clover.com portal and click on the Donate at Checkout icon. On the new website you can run reports to see how many donations have been received and other pertinent information.

We added Donations manually, where are those?

When you use the Donate at Checkout app we add a "Donation" line item to the order and tag this with a note for our reporting. Manual donations do not have that tag and so do not appear on the Donate at Checkout Dashboard.

To find your total donations, including manual donations, you need to use Item Sales report:

  • Log into your Clover Dashboard

  • Click Reporting

  • Click Item Sales

  • Click the Item Type picker and select Non-revenue Items

  • Filter the data to the period you need

If you need to find the Order IDs of the manual Donations, use the Order report:

  • Log into your Clover Dashboard

  • Click Orders

  • Filter the data to the period you need

Automatic Donations appear with a note (red pin) and the text CharityCheckout & [Your Charity Name]

Manual Donations appear without the CharityCheckout & [Your Charity Name] note, which is why they don't appear in the Dashboard.

How will the charity receive the funds?

It is up to you as the Merchant to distribute the funds that you have collected. The donations that you’ve taken are deposited into your bank account along with the other Credit Card receivables.

Which languages do you support?

We currently support English and French. To change the language of the app you need to change the language of your Clover device.
